Structural Repairs at Lower Level and Track Waterproofing at Upper-Level 9th Ave Station, West End Line
This task consisted of two assignments: Part A – Viaduct Rehabilitation and Part B – 9th Avenue rehabilitation design drawings and contract documents for the State of Good Repair upgrades to the facilities. SJH participated in the initial in-depth inspection, was involved with the subsequent design efforts, and provided Construction Support Services during construction.
Inspectors were track safety trained prior to the start of the inspections. During inspections, SJH’s staff engineers functioned as Assistant Team Leaders and documented all steel and concrete deterioration. A manlift was used to inspect the underside of the elevated viaduct structural elements, including girders, floorbeams, stringers, columns, pedestals, and other components. SJH coordinated the required lane closures. At the 9th Avenue Station, the inspectors focused on all the structural and architectural elements of the station building.
During design development, SJH assisted with the development of structural repair details, added cover plates, and replaced bearings. The concrete repairs included spall and crack repairs. The contract documents included specifications and cost estimates.
