Sewer Plant

Under this firm-fixed price contract, SJH led the team to provide full A/E services for the design and construction documents for renovations to the sewage pump station building, serving the 82-acre waterside site on the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy grounds located in Kings Point, New York. A major portion of the sewage from the academy is received at this sewer plant. In addition, some adjacent private homes are also connected to the Academy’s sewerage system. The original building was constructed in 1942, and although the pumps have been rebuilt over the years, no major upgrades or renovations have taken place.

SJH provided A/E design services for a new plant with efficient pumps, controls, access to equipment for preventive maintenance and improved environmental conditions within the plant. We evaluated the structure and provided design improvements to the roof system, masonry finishes, doors, windows, and surrounding grounds areas, evaluated the ventilation system, heating system, lighting, interior finishes, ladder access, electrical systems, control systems, all mechanical equipment and included all improvements to make the plant the most efficient possible for daily operational services.

The project scope involved a complete study of the existing conditions, design for a new and efficient operating sewage system, and the development of 100% Construction Documents that include plans, specifications and cost estimate.
