SJH is prime consultant fully responsible for this project to replace the bridge deck of Route 22 West Bound (WB) over Ramp to Route 22 East Bound (EB). The Final Design of this project was deficient deck slab and approach slabs with minimum environmental and community impacts to the densely occupied area adjacent to the bridge.
Our team conducted an in-depth inspection of the structure before beginning design and prepared repair details based on additional findings beyond the bridge inspection report. We designed a cast-in place construction solution for the bridge deck replacement with a two-stage construction scheme. New shear stud connectors were provided and the superstructure steel is designed to comply with the current AASHTO LRFD HL-93 live loads. The bridge’s sixty-seven (67) degree skew required that SJH’s design accommodate additional reinforcement to control cracking. Other incidental work included replacement of the deteriorated end diaphragms at the abutments, isolated repairs of cracks and spalls in substructure elements, replacement of guiderail/fencing/curbing, limited milling and overlay of the approach roadways, replacement of existing JCP&L light standards with NJDOT standard light standards, and installation of CCTV pole and other ITS components. SJH provided construction support services for the $2.4M project.
