SJH assisted with the in-depth and hands-on inspection effort during the PE phase by providing Assistant Team Leaders, CADD, and office support to the HNTB team. The existing bridge, originally built in 1929, was rehabilitated in 1975. The bridge consisted of a 15-span structure with 6 concrete open spandrel main spans (Spans 6-11) and 9 approach filled barrel arch spans (Spans 1-5 and 12-15). Each of the main spans featured three reinforced concrete arch ribs supporting the deck via diaphragm walls framed into five concrete stringer beams. The deck had an asphalt overlay on top of the concrete surface.
