This project involved the removal and replacement of a 2,700-foot long, 4-lane wide existing bridge deck and parapet on the Route 3 Westbound Bridge, originally constructed in 1963, over the Hackensack River. The bridge was designed to carry three lanes of Route 3 mainline traffic and provide an auxiliary acceleration/deceleration lane for entrance and exit movements. This project converted the auxiliary lane from the Meadowlands Parkway on to Route 3 westbound into a full travel lane and established a new workzone on the left side of Route 3 westbound over the length of the bridge.
Major items of construction on this project were maintenance and protection of traffic (MPT), selective demolition, structural steel repairs, approach slabs, and placing new high performance concrete (HPC) on bridge deck and parapet. We provided an Office Engineer/Inspector who was responsible for entering all quantities and reports into the NJDOT ACES system, reviewing change order requests, and generating monthly payment estimates. Our team calculated as-built quantities and prepares as-built plans.
