SJH was a subconsultant to Mott MacDonald under a three-year term contract, providing design services on an as-needed basis for State/Local and federally funded projects for the MTA and its affiliated agencies (New York City Transit, Long Island Rail Road, Metro-North Railroad, Bridges and Tunnels, and MTA Bus). Task orders included project development, planning, full design for Design-Bid-Build (DBB) construction projects, partial design for Design-Build (DB) construction projects, DB Request for Proposal (RFP) support, and periodic system-wide inspections.
The intersection of the Park Avenue Tunnel experienced continuous traffic issues and a high number of accidents. Over the past couple of decades, improvements were implemented to enhance safety at the tunnel entrance and exit. The tunnel, passing under Park Avenue in Manhattan toward Grand Central Terminal, carries one lane of northbound car traffic from East 33rd Street to East 40th Street.
SJH supported the Mott MacDonald tunnel structural inspection team with qualified engineers on an as-needed basis. The firm provided tunnel inspection and Maintenance and Protection of Traffic (MPT) design services. Additionally, SJH supported the team with AutoCAD drafting in compliance with MNR CADD Standards.
