As the sole design consultant for National Environmental Safety Company, Inc, (NESCO), SJH provided numerous designs to address field conditions and design modifications for various academic facilities in NY. Projects managed by the NY City School Construction Authority (NYCSCA) and our designs were compliant with the Authority’s requirements, standards and guidelines. Several under compressed schedules, especially during the summer time and during school vacations. Tasks included:
Masonry Façade Rehabilitation, Courtyard Grading and Other Miscellaneous Repairs at August Martin High School, Queens, NY
SJH was involved in the inspection and investigation of existing corroded steel lintels, development of replacement details, development steel connection details, drainage design in the courtyard, including development of grading plans, details for repair of curbs, design for window replacements and shoring.
Renovation and Roof Replacement at Virgil Grissom Public School IS 226, Queens, NY
Inspection and investigation of existing roof over the Auditorium and the development of recommendations for its repair and replacement. Developed structural calculations for the attachment of new windows around the entire building.
Replacement of Windows, & Other Rehabilitation, Public School, P.S. 132, Bronx, NY
Design plans and details for the replacement of windows, stability of the brick façade, and stability of columns supporting the exterior masonry during construction.
Interior Design for the Public School M.S. 293, Brooklyn, NY
Relocation of lighting fixtures and other ceiling features to avoid conflict with mechanical ducting.
Exterior Masonry Design for Public School P.S. 114, Brooklyn, NY
Design for the stability of exterior masonry, including the historic terra cotta monuments and facades. Design for the repair of the parapets, and coping stones.
Design for Window Replacement La Guardia High School, New York, NY
SJH reviewed the existing field condition, performed value engineering, and developed innovative designs to improve the anchorage capacity with the available steel framing in the building.
