The project involved the rehabilitation and repair designs to correct the deficiencies observed and identified in the Annual Maintenance Reports for thirteen (13) structures, including bridges and ramps related to I-78 Interstate and the toll facility in Phillipsburg, NJ. SJH provided bridge inspections to assess the deteriorations identified in the Annual Maintenance Reports and develop structural repair details. The structural design included concrete spall and crack repair details, steel repair details, joint replacement details, and details to reset bearings. For bearing resetting, jacking locations and temporary support details were developed. As part of the design, we also evaluated access feasibilities for the contractor to locate the temporary jacking system. The contract documents included repair quantities. Adequate allowance was included in the quantities, since it is possible that concrete spall and crack repair quantities may increase during construction due to cleaning operations by the contractor. SJH also developed Maintenance and Protection of Traffic (MPT) plans for the repairs.
