CM and CI Services for HLC Ventilation Buildings’ Hatch Modifications & Protection of MBB and BVB Switchgear from Water Damage
PROJECT DESCRIPTION

As a task order under General Engineering Consultants 2015-2019 prequalifications contract with MTA, SJH performed construction administration and inspection services for construction of hatch modifications and protection from water damage in the Hugh L. Carey Tunnel ventilation buildings sustained in the Manhattan Blower building and Brooklyn Vent building’s switchgears. The existing hatch doors need replacement after they were damaged by saltwater intrusion due to Hurricane Sandy. SJH provided construction administration, inspection, and other services to comply with costs, schedules, quality, safety, and other criteria for this $1.68M project.

SJH provided complete construction administration and management support, attended the pre-construction meeting, discussed the schedule and budget with the contractor, and implemented all lines of communication and required agency protocols. Our Construction Inspector was supported by an Office Engineer and a Project Manager. SJH assisted with document control and with processing of all of the contractor’s submittals. Our Office Engineer coordinated and conducted weekly progress meetings with the General Contractor, the TBTA and the applicable design professionals to facilitate document submittals and their review and approvals.

Our Construction Inspector provided reports to the TBTA Project Manager. Responsibilities included supervising construction, submitting daily inspection reports, monitoring the progress of the work and ensuring that the schedule and budget were maintained
