PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The Port Authority Trans-Hudson Corporation (PATH)’s 160,000 square-foot Harrison Car Maintenance Facility was constructed in 1990 and serves as the primary inspection, maintenance, and repair shop for PATH’s entire railcar fleet. In 2012, a Conceptual Design Study was conducted for the replacement of the in-ground lifts. The Design-Build team of Skanska-PB-WSP provided design and installation of the replacement of the in-ground Macton lifts located on shop tracks 13, 14, 15 and 16. These lifts are self-contained in pit boxes. The existing lift pits were enlarged by way of partial demolition. The new lifts are outfitted with the proper electrical power, compressed air lines, and pit drains. SJH was responsible for the design of the new compressed air lines that service the pits, as well as the new floor drains in each pit. The existing compressed air lines sat in trenches that ran around the existing lift pits. These trenches were realigned according to the structural engineers, and the compressed air piping was removed and replaced with new. SJH also replaced the drains that were situated inside the pits. These new drains were installed at exact locations in the Macton pit boxes, and SJH designed new deep-seal P traps as well as joint diagrams for the connection of new underground waste piping to existing. There were various sinks and drains that lay outside the pits that were relocated to accommodate the demolition work. Drawings and specifications were prepared per PANYNJ requirements.
