The AirTrain JFK is a 3-line, 8.1 mile long elevated railway and is maintained by the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey (PANYNJ) in Queens, New York. Starting full operations in 2004, the AirTrain carries over 15 million passengers a year. The AirTrain JFK is used by travelers to move between JFK airport locations, connect to MTA New York City Transit subways and buses and the MTA Long Island Rail Road, providing a mass transit mode of transportation to major destinations in New York and New Jersey. The AirTrain is in service 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, and offers transportation to airline terminals, parking lots, hotel shuttle areas, and rental car facilities for free within the airport vicinity.
As part of PANYNJ’s routine inspection program for Authority-owned assets, SJH provided an Assistant Team Leader for the inspection of the AirTrain Guideway Structure. As subconsultant to Transystems, SJH participated in visual and hands-on inspections, as well as the preparation of a Condition Survey Report. The report contains all findings of the condition survey, observed deficiencies, priority action items, and recommendations for repair as well as associated cost estimates for repair. All submitted document were prepared in compliance with Authority guidelines and approved by PANYNJ.
