Extending nearly 3½ miles long and 800 feet across at its widest point, Lake Carnegie accommodated training and events for Princeton University’s rowing teams, as well as several non-University teams, including the U.S. Olympic rowing team. Princeton University contracted the sbp team to provide A/E services from programming through construction close-out for a sustainable pedestrian bridge connecting the West Windsor and Princeton sides of the lake. The bridge enabled pedestrians and cyclists to cross Lake Carnegie and the adjacent Delaware and Raritan Canal without relying on existing vehicular roadways. It connected with pathways into the regional bicycle and sidewalk networks in Princeton and West Windsor, creating a safe, attractive, and user-friendly alternative to vehicular travel. SJH participated in data collection and review, and contributed to the concept, preliminary, and final design for civil, traffic, electrical, and utility relocations. SJH coordinated with a specialty lighting designer and prepared electrical and lighting plans to accommodate the proposed dimmable LED lights embedded into the handrail. The electrical design accounted for emergency power supply and provisions for future connection to the West Windsor side campus infrastructure.
