PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Under this contract, SJH provided expert professional services as subconsultant for the structural inspection of the Newark Liberty International Airport’s (EWR’s) AirTrain structure and stations. The 3-mile AirTrain Newark monorail system connects travelers to all EWR airport parking lots, terminals, shuttles, and rental car facilities, as well as to NJ Transit, North Jersey Coast Line, and Amtrak services, and is in operation 365 days a year.

Our inspectors conducted 100% hands on inspections of the AirTrain Newark guideway structure, including the piers, bearings, and mechanical and electrical device structural support systems. Following completion of inspections, we submitted a report with a listing of all recommended repairs, plans of the structure indicating areas of structural deterioration, photographs of all recommended priority repairs, safety items, and other significant findings.

For the condition survey and report of the AirTrain Newark stations, we conducted 100% visual inspections of all structural and architectural elements, including framing, floor slabs, roof structures, ceilings, and visible foundations. 10% hands-on inspections were performed to primary structural elements and connections.
