SJH was responsible for design and construction support services for the award-winning replacement of a three-span reinforced concrete deck bridge superstructure built in 1928. The project involved surveying and mapping, ROW, Community Relations, environmental impact evaluation, alternative analysis, preliminary and final design for the superstructure replacement, and construction support services. Bridge superstructure designs featured prestressed concrete panels, diaphragms, deck slab, bearings and approach slabs. The bridge abutments were repaired, and the roadway approaches were repaved and restriped. The three span structure was made continuous for live load. The final design included seismic analysis.
Coordination with utilities and maintenance and protection of traffic was a major task for this rehabilitation project. The superstructure was replaced in three stages while maintaining traffic on Route 206. We coordinated with six utility companies in accordance with Utility Accommodation Policy 16:25. The construction was successfully completed in six months without any significant community or traffic impacts.
