Under this $40M Design-Build project, ADA improvements were implemented at the following four stations:
-
95th Street
-
Northern Boulevard
-
137th Street City College
-
Parkchester
SJH provided civil and utilities design work at the 95th Street and Northern Boulevard stations. The team also performed load rating of the existing bridge carrying a circle over the Cross Bronx Expressway at the Parkchester Station. The ADA improvement scope involved the installation of elevators and the demolition and reconstruction of stairs.
SJH developed civil site plans, grading plans, signage, and alignment plans at the 95th Street and Northern Boulevard stations. The new grading plans were designed to drain water away from the stairs and direct it to the existing catch basins and drainage inlets. The street-level designs, including curbs, curb cuts, and sidewalks, were based on NYCDOT Highway Design Standards. SJH also identified existing utilities, coordinated with relevant agencies, and designed the relocation and protection of existing utilities.
At the Parkchester Station, new columns supporting the stairs were installed on top of the existing girders carrying the bridge over the Cross Bronx Expressway. NYSDOT directed that the new loading must not overload the existing bridge girders. SJH conducted the load rating of the bridge to confirm the load-carrying capacity of the existing girders.
