The project included the renovation of the west side of the lower level at NY Penn Station to consolidate the operational spaces and create a larger area for the Amtrak crews. Following the opening of the Moynihan Train Hall in January 2021, several crew spaces in the original Penn Station were vacated. This assignment repurposed the vacated spaces and consolidated them into one larger area to enhance the Amtrak crew’s experience at the station. Additionally, these improvements enabled more efficient use of the spaces.
The scope involved evaluating the spaces and developing complete contract documents for the reconstruction. SJH provided structural engineering design services for the proposed renovations. The team participated in site visits, performed probes to identify existing conditions, and developed design documents for the Crew Base Improvements. Prior to drawing development, SJH contributed to the creation of a Concept Level Report for the proposed modifications and obtained Amtrak’s approval.
