SJH provided engineering services as a subconsultant to Gannett Fleming for the replacement of elevators at the Kingsbridge Bus Depot and the Michael J. Quill Bus Depot. The replacement of four passengers and freight services elevators was planned so that the Kingsbridge and Michael J. Quill Bus Depots operated without any interruptions. Both bus depots operate twenty-four hours per day, seven days per week, and remained occupied and operational during the entire duration of the project. These buildings required unobstructed public bus access in and out of this facility during the elevator replacement process. The project replaced over-age, defective, or unrepairable depot elevators used by passenger and freight services for NYCT Department of Buses. Elevator cabs, equipment within the elevator cabs, shaft ways, pits, and equipment in the elevator machine rooms were replaced. The elevator modernization project meets all the guidelines outlined in the Americans with Disabilities Act Accessibility Guidelines (ADAAG) for passenger elevators. The existing elevator machine rooms included modification and reconfiguration to accommodate the new equipment. The project meets the latest building codes and all applicable codes that have jurisdiction in New York state.
