PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The United States Department of Transportation contracted SJH under our GSA Schedule contract to provide inspection and evaluation services of Fulton Hall and Delano Hall boilers, located at the United States Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, NY. Serving the 82-acre campus, the project evaluated four (4) boilers, two (2) each at the Delano and Fulton Halls. Our evaluation of the boiler systems included current conditions, boiler plant capacity, boiler plant current and future loads, and boiler plant efficiency. Boiler plant efficiency considered current make-up water system conditions and impacts on the boiler plant efficiency. The pumps supplying water to the boilers were inspected to ascertain that they were adequate to supply the required amount of water to the boilers. Services included providing a report to evaluate the existing boiler conditions and boiler load estimates. The report identifying boiler equipment deficiencies, options to address the deficiencies and order of magnitude cost estimates to repair and upgrade the boiler equipment. SJH recommended boiler plant upgrades and repairs and provided a confidential cost estimate. As part of the scope, SJH subcontracted a metallurgist to determine the condition of the boiler tubes.
