SERVICES PROVIDED
Under the Design of Track 115 Trash Facility contract, SJH provided structural engineering design services for the design of a wall barrier to block out odor in the public commuter area for a section of the track. In addition, a section of the track was removed and reconstructed to accommodate a new trash train car. Our designs for the new trash platforms over Tracks 114 and 115 included details that matched the existing platform structure. The new platform was designed to support the estimated trash and other related hauling equipment loads. Portions of the existing platforms were evaluated for the equipment loads. To strengthen the existing platforms, we proposed a new concrete overlay with shear studs connecting the existing underlying concrete. The trash facility was designed as a structural steel system supporting a concrete floor with containment to hold the trash. High-speed roller door openings were provided to unload and remove the trash, with steel frames designed to support the roller doors. We coordinated the structural details with other disciplines and with MNR to accommodate their needs. The proposed structural systems and wall design avoided interference with existing utilities, which was a major effort. SJH also coordinated the probing and testing effort required to confirm certain field conditions.
