The New York State Department of Transportation selected the Yonkers Contracting / HNTB Design-Build team to perform a $134M reconstruction of the mainline, ramps, auxiliary lanes and cross street, bridge replacement and resurfacing, new bridge construction, local street realignment, park and ride facility, parking lots, drainage system, traffic signals, lighting, ITS system, landscaping, and retaining walls. Project features included:

Diverging Diamond Interchange (DDI) – The DDI pattern reduced travel times and congestion, maximized traffic movement, and reduced accidents within the corridor.

New Route 32 bridge and underpass

New East and West lanes on Route 32

4,000 feet of safe pedestrian walkway

Improved access points for Woodbury Commons

Allowance for a future third lane along Route 17
SJH’s scope of work included the design and plan production of Route 6 Ramp A over Route 17, four overhead static sign structures, and fifteen ITS support structures for DMS, CCTV cameras, radar speed detectors, and RWIS sensors. The Route 6 over Route 17 bridge was rehabilitated with new bearings, a new ¾” PPC polymer overlay, elimination of the beginning abutment deck joint, and new approach slabs with improved under-clearance.
