Water Tower #54 Rehabilitation
PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Under a firm fixed price contract, the Department of Veterans Affairs contracted SJH to provide repairs and upgrades to their existing 300,000-gallon elevated water storage tank (Water Tower #54). The scope of work included upgrading the existing Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system to incorporate and receive signals from both the existing temperature and pressure gauges, as well as the new gauges that were installed. SJH addressed the existing freezing issues within the tank, as the steam piping that previously served that purpose was not functioning. SJH was responsible for replacing all the water main piping, valves, and appurtenances inside Tower #54’s altitude valve pit. SJH also designed the control panel to house the breakers controlling all new equipment on top of the tower—namely warning lights, cathodic protection, and the mixing system. New conduits were run to the pit for the new dehumidifier, space heater, and lighting fixtures. SJH provided a new 4” drain valve, drain piping, and a new floor drain to eliminate excess moisture buildup. This drain penetrated the floor of the pit and discharged to either the toe of slope or a drywell. SJH provided specifications and cost estimates for the project in its entirety. All drawings complied with VA CADD standards, and all specifications adhered to VA standards. SJH provided construction support services through December 2022 as part of a sole-sourced follow-on contract.
