Under this five year term contract., SJH is providing design services as a DBE subconsultant on the GFP team on an as-needed basis to support WMATA’s capital improvements program. Services to date have involved the design of new facilities as well as upgrades and expansions.
Condition Survey of Four Multi-Level Parking Garages, VA, MD
SJH provided an Assistant Team Leader and participated in the structural condition survey inspection of four (4) multi-level parking garages. These inspections focused on all structural aspects of the buildings. A condition survey report identifying the deteriorations and recommendations for repairs was prepared at the end of the field survey and submitted to WMATA. Our team member provided AutoCAD support in the development of the Condition Survey Report. Through this project, SJH has become very familiar with WMATA CADD standards and their report preparation guidelines.
Dry Fire Standpipe System Replacements, DC, MD, and VA
SJH is providing inspection and design services for the replacement of dry standpipe fire protection systems in the tunnels, vent shafts, fan shafts, and emergency exit shafts throughout the Metrorail system. SJH is responsible the Fire Standpipe Replacements on Routes A, B, C and F. Initial field investigations are almost complete, and these were conducted during non-revenue hours to determine site conditions. Designs will include replacement of the existing fire dry standpipe risers associated with the wet standpipe fire protection systems of the Metrorail stations from the fire department siamese connection at the street level down to the wet standpipe fire protection system within the station.
Final Design of the 7000 Series Railcar HVAC Unit Repair and Overhaul Shop at Greenbelt Maintenance Facility, MD
This two story steel framed building, used to repair HVAC equipment from rail cars. SJH was to be responsible for the structural design of the steel frame of the building, including all supports for cladding, and other items; steel supports for any cranes and other hoisting equipment; structural supports for elevator shaft; stairs; supports for roller doors at the loading area; loading bay and platform; and structural supports for the HVAC workstations and platforms. Due to the calculated weight of the heavy equipment, we anticipated that some floor areas will need to be redesigned to support the additional loads.
(This HVAC Repair Shop assignment was however, cancelled after some initial work)
