Project Name
Preliminary Design for Hudson Line Infrastructure Improvements – Sandy Restoration
Project Description
The preliminary engineering design for this design-build project involves Post Hurricane Sandy restoration of the 30 miles of Hudson Line of Metro North Railroad (MNR) right-of-way, particularly the 3rd rail traction power, and Communications and Signal (C&S) components and systems. Restoration efforts focus on components that were damaged beyond repair and components with compromised reliability. As a subconsultant to Gannett Fleming, SJH is providing structural, civil and geotechnical engineering services. The structural design involves RTUs, fiber optic transmission systems, snow melter cabinets, new transformer pads, concrete pull boxes, splice pedestals and other ancillary items, raised equipment platforms, and stairways for the raised platforms. The structural design follows MNR standards and guidelines, and the New York State Fire Prevention and Building Code. Civil engineering involves development of site/grading plans, access roadway and parking lot plans and other utility relocation plans. We are also responsible for soil borings, field visits, attending meetings, and providing input for the draft and final deliverables.
