Project Name
Garden State Parkway Widening Interchange 30 to 63

Project Description

A section of the Garden State Parkway is being widened to accommodate an additional lane and standard shoulders on each side of the roadway. The widening is towards the open median area. Bridges over the parkway are being replaced with longer span structures to accommodate the widening and the bridges and culverts carrying the Parkway are being widened and extended.

We designed and prepared construction documents for the replacement of two (2) bridges, and the extension of four (4) culverts on this project. The two bridges carry Green Street (CR 539), over the Northbound and Southbound Parkway, and the culverts pass under the Parkway at various locations. The new bridges are multi stringer structures with Mechanically Stabilized Earth (MSE) wall wrap around integral abutments. The bridges were replaced in two stages while maintaining traffic on Green Street.  The culverts are multi cell box culverts, and are being extended with new headwalls and aprons. At some locations, MSE walls are constructed on top of the existing culverts to retain the widened sections of the Parkway. We performed seismic analysis as per NJTA guidelines. The project is currently under construction and we are providing construction support services.
